Case manager jobs
Direct answer
A case manager in tax relief runs the representation file — notices, deadlines, document chase, and client updates — and hands work to the enrolled agent, CPA, or attorney. They do not represent the taxpayer.
This is the operations seat on a live case. Good case managers keep CSED, appeal windows, and RO callbacks from being missed. They are not sales and they are not the practitioner.

What tax case managers do
Own the calendar on assigned files. Collect documents. Update the taxpayer. Queue the next practitioner action. Log what the IRS sent and when it is due.
In a serious shop the case manager sees the same record the EA sees — notices, transcripts, Discovery — instead of a CRM note that says “follow up.”
- Track notices, deadlines, and practitioner callbacks
- Chase 433 documents and missing returns
- Keep the taxpayer informed without promising an outcome
- Hand a clean file to the EA, CPA, or attorney
What this role is not
It is not enrollment and it is not licensed representation. It is also not a generic customer-service queue that never opens the tax file.
Who hires — and what they look for
Almost every relief firm with more than a handful of open cases. Remote US is common. Firms want people who can read a notice date and write a clear client update.
Prior work in case management, paralegal, medical records, or tax prep helps. A license is optional; panic under a deadline is not.

Common questions
Is a tax case manager the same as a resolution specialist?
Close, but not the same. Case managers run the file and the calendar. Resolution specialists build 433 and program packages. Some firms combine the seats; this board lists them separately so you can tell.
Do case managers talk to the IRS?
Sometimes for status, if the firm allows it. They do not appear as the representative. Form 2848 stays with the EA, CPA, or attorney.
